Practical information > Have a mealFLUP has two cafeterias and a university restaurant. The prices are reasonable (a full meal for less than 5 or 6 euros; coffee and sandwich for 1.80 euros). The quality is not exceptional but normally the meals are made on the spot. Be careful during peak hours because the service can be very slow.

RESTAURANTE CAPA NEGRA Rua do Campo Alegre, 191 4150-177 Porto Gastronomic institution of Porto. Continuous service, with a very large choice of dishes. The house specialty: "francesinha" (the typical Porto dish, a bit heavy to talk about phonology afterwards, but the concept of heavy syllables is thus better integrated). According to the legend, it is here that such a hyperdose of calories, the francesinha, was created. Fish and seafood of high quality. Very popular and for that reason with long lines sometimes. Three large rooms and a small terrace (smokers allowed on the terrace). Five minutes walk from the Faculty (in front of the Confeitaria Leblon and the Hotel Ipanema). Average price: 15 euros/person.
ROUNDABOUT/ROTUNDA DA BOAVISTA - MERCADO DO BOM SUCESSO - RUA ARQUITETO MARQUES DA SILVA Within a 10-minute walk, you will find in Rotunda da Boavista and in the streets that go down to the Faculty of Letters small restaurants or bistros with various choices and prices. Among them, here are some indications/suggestions (not exhaustive). The old Mercado do Bom Sucesso, behind the Hotel Tuela, has small bistros with Portuguese and international cuisine. Average prices: 10-12 euros/person. Nearby, the shopping centers Cidade do Porto and Península also have restaurants (most of them self-service) and ready-to-eat restaurants (sandwich shops, pizzas, soups ...) at very reasonable prices (from 6 or 7 euros/person). Next to Cidade do Porto, you will find Casa Agrícola (https://www.casa-agricola.com/ ), an old agricultural house in Porto, with a room downstairs with economical meals and another one, on the second floor, a bit more expensive. The small square south of the old Mercado do Bom Sucesso (Largo Ferreira Lapa), behind the Hotel Vice-Rei, still has small cafés that serve a full lunch for 8 euros or less. In Rua Arquiteto Marques da Silva (which goes down from Hotel Tuela to Rua do Campo Alegre), you will find small restaurants, such as Convívio, on the very corner in front of Hotel Tuela (average price: 12 euros/person), and others much cheaper (including a Vietnamese and a vegetarian). Franganito is famous for its roast chicken and is part of the gastronomic memories of Porto. |
